POKEMON GO! IT'S GO TIME!

Pokemon Go is a location based adventure game for Android and iOS devices. Released in selected countries in July 2016, Pokemon Go has become one of the most popular mobile games.

HOW TO PLAY POKEMON GO?

In the game, a player uses a mobile device's GPS capability to locate, capture, battle and train virtual creatures, called Pokemon, who appear on the screen as if they were in the same real-world location as the player (if the AR mode is ON).

GAMEPLAY

After creating a game account the player creates a virtual character, who is the person who will be shown in the map. After the person is created he/she will be displayed in the map using the player's current geographical location. On the screen there are three things. They are:

1. Player Profile on the lower left which shows the players info.
2. A Poke Ball on the lower center which shows the Pokemons caught by you.
3. A nearby bar on the lower right which shows the Pokemons who are near you.

Apart from this there are other features on the map which include PokeStop and Pokemon gym. PokeStop provide players with items, such as eggs, Poke Balls and other things. Pokemon gym serve as battle locations for matches.

The animated character moves in the map as a player moves within his/her surroundings. They can catch Pokemons which reside in different areas of the world. A player has to throw a Poke Ball towards the Pokemon which comes near him/her. While a player catches a Pokemon, he/she can view it in AR mode or with a live rendered, generic background. AR mode uses the camera and gyroscope on the player's mobile device to display an image of a Pokemon as though it were in the real world. Players can take screen shots of the Pokemon they encounter either with or without the AR mode activated.

POKEMON GO REVENUE

Through in-game purchases, the game generated more than US$75 million in revenue by July 26, 2016 and more than US$160 million by August 1, 2016. Pokemon Go generates more than US$10 million in revenue every day from iOS and Google Play users. In the first month of release, the game had passed more than US$200 million in worldwide revenue, beating every existing record set by Clash of Clans and Candy Crush by a wide margin.

The game was awarded five Guinness World Records on August 10, 2016:

1. Most revenue grossed by a mobile game in its first month (US$206.5 million).
2. Most downloaded mobile game in its first month (130 million downloads);
3. Most international charts topped simultaneously for a mobile game in its first month (top game in 70 different countries);
4. Most international charts topped simultaneously for a mobile game in its first month (top grossing in 55 countries simultaneously);
5. Fastest time to gross $100 million by a mobile game (reached in 20 days on July 26).
